At 19 years old, Matt Talafuse deployed to Iraq as a Black Hawk helicopter mechanic and crew chief. He expected to spend his deployment fixing helicopters, and he did.

But he also found himself volunteering more than 600 hours inside one of the busiest combat hospitals in Iraq, off-loading wounded service members from the Medevac helicopters he repaired daily, rushing those men and women to the Emergency Department tent, and eventually helping to prepare the bodies of 14 fallen Americans for their final journey home.

But Between the Living and the Dead isn't just a war story.

It's the story of what came home with him.

Through war, PTSD, firefighting, marriage, fatherhood, and an unexpected journey of faith, Matt shares what it took to finally confront the things he had carried for years and discover that our hardest chapters can become part of a greater purpose.
