Bring Matt To Your Next Event

Real Stories. Meaningful Connection. Lasting Impact.

Everybody carries something.

For Matt Talafuse, some of that weight came early.

At 19 years old, Matt deployed to Iraq as a Black Hawk helicopter mechanic and crew chief. What began as a deployment fixing helicopters led him to volunteer more than 600 hours inside a combat hospital, where he helped carry wounded service members from medevac helicopters and eventually worked in the morgue, helping prepare 14 fallen Americans for their final journey home.

The hardest part came after he returned home.

Matt spent years struggling with the memories he carried, battling PTSD and using alcohol to escape the nightmares and emotions he didn't yet know how to process. He eventually found a different path through faith, family, service, and a career as a professional firefighter.

Today, nearly two decades after Iraq, Matt doesn't tell these stories because he wants an audience to know what happened to him.

He tells them because of what they can mean to someone else.

His signature keynote, The Weight We Carry, uses powerful storytelling, humor, vulnerability, and lessons learned through war, trauma, firefighting, leadership, faith, and family to explore three simple questions:

What are you carrying?
Who helps you carry it?
Whose weight can you help carry?

Matt's message isn't about pretending our hardest experiences were somehow good. It's about recognizing that what we've survived can shape how we show up for others. Pain can create empathy. Struggle can create connection. And the weight we learn to carry and share can give us the strength to help someone else carry theirs.

Your Audience. Your Mission.

No two audiences are the same, and Matt believes a great keynote should feel like it belongs to the people in the room.

Before each engagement, he takes time to understand your organization, your audience, and why everyone has gathered. He then connects the message of The Weight We Carry to the challenges, values, and mission that matter to them.

That connection is especially powerful for nonprofits, foundations, galas, and fundraising events. Many of these organizations exist for one simple reason: someone decided another person shouldn't have to carry something alone.

Matt helps audiences see that connection.

Who is your organization helping to carry? Why does that work matter? And what can each person in the room do to help carry that mission forward?

Whether speaking to business leaders, first responders, veterans, educators, athletes, churches, nonprofits, or community organizations, Matt's goal is to make his story relevant to their story.

More Than Inspiration

Matt isn't interested in giving an audience a temporary emotional high.

He wants them to do something.

Make the phone call. Ask the second question. Tell someone you're struggling. Check on the person who's been unusually quiet. Support the organization doing work that matters. Sit beside someone who shouldn't have to carry their burden alone.

Because the best keynote doesn't end when the speaker walks off the stage.

It changes what someone does next.

Everybody carries something. The best of us help carry someone else.
